The National Productivity Secretariat, Sri Lanka proudly hosted the Conference on Organic Agriculture for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo from 9-10 December 2024.
The event brought together 74 international participants and 22 local participants from 14 APO member countries, including experts, practitioners, and policymakers dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture. These participants engaged in meaningful discussions, shared their diverse experiences, and explored innovative approaches to organic farming and biodiversity conservation.
We were also honored to have 7 esteemed resource persons who are leaders in their respective fields. Their expertise and insights were invaluable in guiding the conference sessions and discussions. The resource persons included:
• Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Hossain from Bangladesh, an expert in sustainable agriculture with extensive experience in national and international organizations.
• Mr.Paul Holmbeck from Denmark, a visionary leader in organic food and farming policy.
• Tulenam Laloo from India, a professional with significant contributions to innovation, strategy, and sustainable development.
• Dr. Saptini Mukti Rahajeng from Indonesia, a renowned expert in biotechnology and organic farming.
• Ms.Yuri Sato, a dedicated professional from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan.
• Dr. W.A. Palitha Weerakkody, a Senior Professor in Horticulture at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
• Dr. Priyantha Yapa, a distinguished expert in Ecological Agriculture, Soil, and Environmental Science.
The keynote address was delivered by Ms. J.M Thilaka Jayasundara, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development. Mr. Tadashi Manabe and Ms. Emiko Kurayoshi attended, representing the Asian Productivity Organization.The event was organized by NPS Sri Lanka with the guidance of Director - NPS, Mr. Niranaja Jayakodi and Deputy Director - NPS, Ms. Sugandika Liyanage.
